- The 17th UN conference on biodiversity, known as Cop17, is taking place in Armenia.
- Data analyzed in the study covers 88% of bee and hover fly species across the European continent.
- Nearly 90% of wild flowering plants and over 75% of major food crop types rely partially on animal pollination.
- 91% of species logged over the last century were also recorded between 2001 and 2020.
- Decade targets include protecting 30% of land and sea, restoring 30% of degraded ecosystems, and reforming $500bn and £375bn in damaging subsidies.
- Carlos Martínez-Núñez emphasized a crucial opportunity to act, noting that current increases do not guarantee survival against climate change and habitat loss.
- Ainhoa Magrach confirmed that many pollinator species are losing populations unevenly across the continent.
